YachtMedia…

Bespoke Publicity for the Yachting World.

About

YachtMedia is the trading name for the Yachting Public Relations enterprise run by Peter Franklin.

YachtMedia writes for a number of international yachting publications, and produces publicity materials for selected clients.

With over 50 years in the nautical business and 30 years writing and editing marine content, YachtMedia’s senior partner Peter Franklin, has a wealth of experience and a comprehensive range of contacts. As well as being connected with all branches of the specialised yachting media, he has regular contact with the various disciplines that drive the industry, from superyacht captains, to engineers, yacht builders, surveyors, naval architects, designers and sail makers etc.

We are passionate campaigners for the future health of the world’s oceans and waterways. As such our content provision for the past seven years has focused exclusively on environmental sustainability in the marine world. During this time we helped to organise online and offline content (blogs / sustainability panel discussions / forums) for METSTRADE, the world’s largest Marine Equipment Trade show.

This is a focus that we plan to continue with into the future, whilst actively supporting some of the most dedicated not-for-profit organisations who are striving to ‘make the difference’ for the future survival of the planet. To name but a few: Plastic Soup Foundation, Blue Marine Foundation, Mission Blue, Save the Med, Clean Boating, Cleanwave (both Mallorca based), Sea Shepherd, Sailors for the Sea, Clean Marinas…etc etc.

Career Highlights:

Previously Managing Editor of The Islander, the longest running English language yachting publication in the Mediterranean. Peter Franklin produced 85 issues of the magazine over a period of seven years.

Before that as Regional Editor of Communitor the corporate magazine for Unitor Ships Service, Peter provided technical and social content over a fifteen year period from wherever he was based; Firstly in the UK, then USA, Singapore and Rotterdam. Unitor was a 100 year old company and the largest technical ship supplier in the world, when it was successfully taken over by the Norwegian Wilhelmsen Shipping Group in 2005.

Qualification as a shipwright / boat-builder and later as a marine coatings inspector, together with an assignment to Lloyds Register of Shipping to help establish a ground breaking corrosion protection scheme, gave Peter a thorough technical background before he launched into nautical journalism.

Always living and working near the sea, Peter has been able to pursue his motor boating hobby over many years, owning several boats up to 12 metres and chartering in The Caribbean and Australia. He has also gained an RYA Powerboat Instructors (level 2) certificate and holds an RYA/MCA commercially endorsed advanced powerboat license. In 2002 he received the special honour to be recognised as a certified Freeman of the River Thames.

During his time in Palma de Mallorca Peter was skipper of the official photo/chase boat for the Palma Superyacht Cup and the Oyster Mediterranean regatta over a period of several years. He also helped form the EU Working Group of the Balearic Islands Nautical Business Association (AENIB) for which he acted as secretary and press officer for five years.

With this combination of practical nautical industry experience and professional journalism, Peter is able to write on a wide range of marine and yachting topics with precise understanding of, and empathy with the subject matter.

My portfolio of over 100 articles on the subject of marine sustainability can be found here.

    • Hello Hugh, thanks for the words of encouragement. I must say I find the WordPress application excellent, it really suits my purpose with my new set up. I’ve been commissioned by Practical Boat Owner, and IBI News for a few articles (both part of IPC Media) and have a few other jobs keeping me ticking over. I have made a note to order your new book, it looks great. But I dare not do it until I have finished wading through ‘The Swarm’ by Frank Schatzing. Its a hefty 900 pager, and I’m quite enjoying it, but don’t seem to get enough time to get to the end! I gave up trying to read books on the iPad, it just didn’t gel with me. So I will order a proper version of your novel, and will continue to be a Luddite for as long as they keep printing books! All the best, Peter.
